If you have a yeast infection, there is a good chance that you’re trying to use home remedies to treat it. One remedy that is somewhat controversial, because it can deliver both positive and negative results is the honey for yeast infection remedy.

There are 2 ways in which you can use honey for a yeast infection:

  1. Honey can be applied topically.
  2. Honey can be eaten.

In this post, I want to talk about the benefits along with the drawbacks to using honey as a yeast infection treatment. I will also talk about how to use honey as an effective treatment, giving you step by step instructions. Finally, I will give you my 2 cents on this remedy, before giving you some alternative home remedies to look through.

Benefits of Using Honey for Your Yeast Infection!

  • Cheap, natural, effective, and easily accessible.
  • Increases level of good bacteria in the body.
  • Stops itchiness.
  • Helps to get rid of the yeast infection.

Drawbacks of Using Honey for Your Yeast Infection.

  • Honey has sugar, and sugar helps yeast grow.

The Controversy.

As we all know, yogurt is an effective yeast infection home remedy. As honey falls much into the same category as yogurt, some experts agree that honey could also cause a yeast infection, or prevent one from getting better. Let’s take some time to look into both sides of the argument.

Yes! Use Honey!

When it comes to honey, it’s great for your yeast infection because honey increases the body’s beneficial bacteria levels. Much like yogurt, beneficial bacteria will help to kill off a yeast infection.

No! Don’t Use Honey!

On the other end, honey is actually filled with sugar, which can help yeast thrive. Although this is the case, it’s said that as long as the levels of bacteria in the body are high enough, the sugar in the honey shouldn’t make a difference.

What You Will Need.

  • Organic honey.
  • Soft cloth or applicator, OR
  • a Spoon (for eating honey).

Directions.

There are 2 methods that you can use for treating your yeast infection with honey. First, you can simply eat honey. Alternatively, you can apply honey to the infected area as an effective treatment option. Since eating honey is pretty self explanatory, I want to focus on using honey as a topical treatment.

  1. Get some honey and apply it to a soft cloth or applicator.
  2. Apply honey to the infected area.
  3. It may be easier to do this while sitting on a toilet.
  4. Leave the application on for about 20 minutes.
  5. Afterwards, take a bath or a shower.
  6. Do this up to 2 times a day.

My Final Thoughts

If you’re going to use honey as an effective home remedy, I would talk to your doctor first. Also, closely monitor your results. If your yeast infection becomes worse, then you should stop using honey as a home remedy for your yeast infection.
